  • Marriage is before God, not before man.
  • Unless it is because of adultery or death, or the spouse is an unbeliever, we are not bound

Eph 5:31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, 'Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.'

Matt 5:31-32 It has also been said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' Matt 5:32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Matt 19:3-6 Then the Pharisees came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, 'Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?' Matt 19:4 And He answered and said to them, 'Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female,' Matt 19:5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? Matt 19:6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.

1 Cor 7:10-16 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 1 Cor 7:11 But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife. 1 Cor 7:12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 1 Cor 7:13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 1 Cor 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 1 Cor 7:15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. 1 Cor 7:16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?

Mark 10:11-12 So He said to them, 'Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. Mark 10:12 And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.'

Matt 19:28-29 So Jesus said to them, 'Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Matt 19:29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.'

Colossians 3:18-19 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

1 Pet 3:7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

Ephesians 5:25-26 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.

1 Corinthians 7:3-5 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 1 Corinthians 7:5 Do not deprive one another, except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

1 Cor 11:3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

Eph 5:22-23 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Eph 5:23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

Eph 5:28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.

Matt 5:27-30 You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.' Matt 5:28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matt 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Matt 5:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Heb 13:4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

1 Cor 7:1-5 Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 1 Cor 7:2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 1 Cor 7:3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 1 Cor 7:4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 1 Cor 7:5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
