Jesus Christ Commanded His Disciples to Keep the Law That the Word of God Speaks Of #12 (1)

Blessings, this is Pastor Francisco Gómez greeting you. We continue with our teaching series Called to Be a Disciple. Today we are on teaching number 12.

Today's title is, the Lord Jesus Christ commanded that we keep the law of Moses. Let's look in the word of God at what it says about this. This is also a very important topic, since over these years I've had the opportunity to minister to many people, to minister healing and deliverance to many people who come from Judaic roots of the faith, who always talk about the Torah.

Let's look — it's important that you open your eyes, pay attention to what the Lord says in his word. We will be reading the word of God, and further on I'll share a bit more, because there are spiritual things behind every doctrine that is not according to the word of God. There are spiritual powers that take advantage of people's ignorance.

The truth shall set you free. For lack of understanding, many are suffering. Four important points I want to make sure are clear in each of your minds in this teaching: we are under a new covenant.

The Lord did not come to break the law, but he came to fulfill the law, and the Lord fulfilled the law. Under the law no soul will be saved, and everyone who lives under the law has fallen from grace — and point number four, everyone who lives under the law is under a curse, is under a curse, and their soul remains in chains. The word tells us in Hebrews 7:11, therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood — that is, in the past, in the time of Moses, the Lord gave the priesthood to the tribe of Levi, which was the priesthood the Pharisees still held to the time when the Lord came.

But the word says the kingdom of heaven will be taken away and given to people who bear fruit worthy of it. The Pharisees turned their hearts away from God — they kept the law, but their hearts were far from the truth, and therefore the priesthood was taken from them. But the word says in Hebrews 7:11, for under it the people received the law.

What further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron? Here it is drawing the distinction with Aaron — Aaron was of the tribe of Levi, the brother of Moses, who held the priesthood under the law, he and his descendants. But now the word says, what need was there for another priest to rise according to the order of Melchizedek? That priest is none other than our Lord Jesus Christ. If we have a new priest, then the word says next, in Hebrews 7:12, for the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.

Here the word is telling us the priesthood changed — we used to be under the law of Moses, the Levitical priesthood, but now there is a new priesthood and a new priest according to the order of Melchizedek. It says, because the priesthood was changed, of necessity the law also had to change — meaning, the standards changed, the way we supposedly inherited salvation before is not the way we are saved now. It is a new priesthood, there is a new change of law, there is a new priest.

The old priests were temporary, only while they lived, but now we have an eternal priest. Matthew 11:13, for all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. I want to take a minute to explain this word.

There have been pastors who have asked me — there are no more prophets, some pastors have told me, there are no more prophets, because the last prophet was John. Is it really true that this is what this word in Matthew 11:13 says — that all the prophets and the law prophesied until John? No. I'm going to share with you what this word actually says.

When this word says here that all the prophets and the law prophesied until John, it's because that time — the Old Testament, the time of the Levitical priesthood — was also known as the time of the law and the prophets, because they lived under the law, and in that time there were prophets, right? But one of the ways that priesthood, the Levitical priesthood, was known, was as the time of the law and the prophets. So, until John — John was the last prophet of that time of the law and the prophets, because after John the Lord Jesus Christ began his priesthood. Now it is the time of the apostles — there are also prophets, because there are prophets, but it is the time of the apostles.

The new priesthood that began with Jesus Christ gave rise to a new ministry that never existed before, that of the apostles. Back then, in the Old Testament, no one was called an apostle. But then, think about it — if John was the last prophet, we would be denying Jesus Christ, because Jesus Christ was a prophet.

Even the entire New Testament — Paul and everything else — much of what is written in the New Testament came through prophecy. If we say, if we take those words literally to mean that the last prophet was John, we are antichrists, we are denying Jesus Christ, and we are denying the entire New Testament, which was revealed through prophecy. So no — John was the last of the prophets up to the time of the law and the prophets.

That's why many were baptized by John, John's disciples, but then afterward they recognized the Lord Jesus Christ, because John said, one mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie. Many of those who were baptized by John, when the Lord began his priesthood, which was after John, were baptized again by the Lord, because they were baptized this time, now truly, since what had just concluded — at that moment, when the Lord began his priesthood, a new priesthood began. But John was not the last prophet — he was the last prophet of the time of the law and the prophets, because John was not a disciple of Jesus Christ.

He served the Lord Jesus Christ, but he was not, he was not a disciple of Jesus Christ. He testified about Jesus Christ, but he came before Jesus Christ — he came to prepare the way for the Lord. Matthew 5:18, for assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

Here, until everything is fulfilled, not one tittle will pass, until it is fulfilled, and that's the situation. One of the points of today's teaching is that the Lord came to fulfill the law, and not only did he come to fulfill it, he did fulfill the law. Then the word says in Matthew 5:17, do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets — the law or the prophets, because that is how the time of the Levitical priesthood, the time of the law and the prophets, was known.

I did not come to destroy, but to fulfill. The Lord did not come — he is saying, I did not come to cancel the law, I came to fulfill the law. And he did it.

Galatians 4:4, but when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law. When the fullness of time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman and born under the law. The Lord was born under the law, was sent under the law, but it was the fullness of time — he came to fulfill the law.

But then, in Luke 4:18-21, here the Lord officially says, this Scripture is fulfilled — listen to what the word says: the Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. Then He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. The Lord, with his own mouth, confirmed, today the law is fulfilled — essentially, when the Lord said, he has sent me to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, to heal the brokenhearted, he was saying, I came to fulfill the law, and I have fulfilled the law. On this day the law was officially fulfilled.

Matthew 26:28, the word says, for this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Here the Lord officially began a new covenant — he said, this is my blood. The Lord shed his blood as the new covenant. In the old testament they performed rituals with sheep and animals, but now the Lord shed his blood, gave up his body, and shed his blood as the sign of a new covenant. Under this covenant we are under grace — that's why by grace we are saved. The Lord gave his life for us, gave up his life for us, so that whoever believes in him would have eternal life.

Romans 6:15, what then, shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not. Here the word is not talking about the two kinds of priesthood, the priesthood of the law and the priesthood of grace — under the law, neither you nor I, nor most of you listening to me, who are Gentiles like me — Gentiles were all of us who were not of the tribe of Israel, who were not Israelites — we could not be saved. Under the law, only the people of Israel inherited salvation. But thank God, by his mercy, through his mercy and in the new covenant of grace, we can be saved. It is such a strange thing that many people like us Gentiles now supposedly want to make themselves Jews and want to put themselves under the law, when under the law they couldn't even be saved. They want to talk only about the Torah, the Torah, the Torah, but under the Torah Gentiles could not be saved — and besides, under the law no soul will be saved. Let's look at what the word says — right here it clearly says, shall we sin because we are not under the law — it is clearly confirming, we are not under the law. But just as we have read the word so far, we see that we are under a new covenant, the covenant of grace. Romans 7:6, but now we are delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. Here, but now we are delivered from the law, the word says — it's understandable, one word after another confirms we are not under the law, it says we are under a new arrangement, under the arrangement of the Spirit, not of the old letter — before, the law was a letter, it was writing; now it's not, now we are under the arrangement of the Spirit, because when we repent and receive that wonderful grace of the Lord, through which we are justified and saved, we receive the Spirit of God, and those who are led by the Spirit of God, these are His sons and daughters.

Titus 3:9, but avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law, for they are unprofitable and useless. Those who live under the law like to talk a lot — they're what I call time-wasters — because if you sit down and engage with them, they can talk for a whole week, and to disciples like myself, who bear fruit healing and delivering people, they would steal our time, because since they walk in the flesh, all they can really do is talk, and since they don't serve God in the way of the work the Lord did, healing and delivering people, they have all the time in the world to talk and waste time. In short, they are without fruit. Those who are under the law try to steal the fruit from us who are disciples of Jesus Christ doing the Lord's work, by talking. But here the word says — it's a command — avoid foolish arguments about genealogies and disputes, because those under the law engage in pure contention — they just want to talk and argue: not because of Moses, not because you can't eat meat, not because of things that have no real importance whatsoever, or things that are still entirely sinful. But it says we should avoid discussions with them about the law, because they are unprofitable and useless — meaning, don't waste your time talking with them about the law, because it bears us no fruit, it's a waste of time. Romans 6:14, for sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Because if they are under the law, they are carnal; those who live under the law are under a curse, they have not received the Holy Spirit, and therefore sin still has dominion over them, because we cannot overcome sin unless we are under the Lord's grace, filled with his Spirit, guided by his Spirit — otherwise we are under slavery. The law enslaves; through grace we are free through the Holy Spirit. Galatians 2:16, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. What could be clearer than that? And yet how many dare — the devil deceives them into wanting to live in slavery, to live under the law, when the word clearly says that by the works of the law no soul will be justified — we are justified by faith in Jesus Christ. Those who live under the law mostly just want to read the first five books of the Bible. If only they would read the first five books of the New Testament instead, which speaks of Jesus Christ, they would have an opportunity to be saved, but they base their doctrine on the Torah, on the first five books of the Bible — that is totally antichrist. By doing that, they are rejecting grace. Galatians 2:21, I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain. Here it states the position — I do not set aside the grace of God, because if righteousness came through the law, then Christ really did die for nothing, because if a person wants to place themselves under the law, they are rejecting the grace of God. We are under a new covenant, but if we put ourselves under the law, we are rejecting the Lord's grace. Romans 3, since by the works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight — it clearly states that by the works of the law no human being, none, will be justified in his sight. It is very clear — we are not under the law, we are under a new covenant, that's why we are disciples of Jesus Christ. The Pharisees said, we are disciples of Moses — those under the law are disciples of Moses, but Moses testified of Jesus Christ, so even those who say they are under the law of Moses don't really believe him, because if they believed Moses, they would believe Jesus Christ, because Moses spoke of Jesus Christ. Galatians 2:19, for I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God — see, that apostle says he died to the law in order to live for God, because those who live for the law have died to Jesus Christ. Galatians 3:11, but that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for the just shall live by faith — one scripture after another clearly says that by the law no one will be justified before God. Those who are under the law are slaves, because they are slaves to death — if they don't repent, the outcome will not be good. It's clear — I believe one must be very blind and very deaf to hear the word being shared like this and not understand it — this is not my word, I am not sharing my own word, it is the word of Jesus Christ that I am reading and sharing with you, one passage after another, with great clarity. I know that many people live under the law because they are in churches with Judaic roots, or they are Adventists, who also live under the law, and there are many other denominations that live under the law as well — but whoever lives under the law is under a curse, whoever lives under the law is dead in their sins. Galatians 3:10, for as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them. Here the word says that those who live under the law are under a curse — imagine, they supposedly want to follow God and put themselves under the law, only to become cursed, because the word clearly says that everyone who lives under the law is under a curse, because cursed is everyone who does not continue in everything the law requires in order to fulfill it. But not even the Israelites ever fully kept the law — imagine, not even they kept the law, back in a time when there wasn't nearly as much wickedness as there is now, with all the wickedness there is in the world, in this system we live in, the system of the beast — how are they going to keep the whole law? Some want to keep the Sabbath — I do keep the Sabbath myself — but on that very Sabbath they get drunk, which is blasphemy — they say they keep the Sabbath and they keep it drunk, they say they keep the Sabbath and on that very Sabbath they commit fornication — that is blasphemy. And besides, if they keep the Sabbath but don't keep everything else in the law, which was more than seven hundred commandments, they are cursed, because cursed is the one who does not keep everything the law says — if they keep one commandment and not another. For example, under the law, if a son or daughter committed fornication, especially daughters, they had to be stoned to death. Many who say they belong to the Adventist church, who keep the Sabbath, have daughters who are guilty of fornication, who have fornicated, who have committed adultery, and they don't stone their own daughter to death — well, by not stoning their daughter to death, they've already sinned. If they had other kinds of sexual sins and other kinds of sins, there were different commandments for those too. Concerning idolatry, if they had an idol — they say they keep the law, yet they have images of a false Jesus, in their own view, right there in their own church, and many other religious idols — but under the law, whoever had an idol had to be stoned to death, had to die, by that very standard. Right now, those who keep the law would have to be dead, because since they are idolaters, they should have been stoned to death. Some have slept with their brother's wife — under the law, that required death. If they are Adventists, or supposedly under the law, they should be dead, because they committed sins of that nature, and under the law, whoever commits those sins must die — they should be dead. If they truly kept the law, the Adventist church and others would disappear, because almost all of them have committed fornication, almost all of them have committed sins worthy of death under the law, and therefore they have not fulfilled the law, and therefore they are cursed. So then, everyone who is under the law is under a curse — read the commandments of the law, there are more than seven hundred of them, and many of them carry the penalty of being stoned to death for certain sins, and you will see that most of those who live under the law have committed those very sins. The point is that even they themselves stand as a reproach, because if they want to keep the law and yet are still alive when they should have been stoned to death, they are failing to keep the law. They should say, look, kill me, because I committed fornication, I committed a sin that the law says I must die for — kill me — but not one of those who keep the law says that. Galatians 3:13, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree). Jesus Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law — we are free in Christ, through the Lord we have a freedom that under the law was impossible to receive. Galatians 5:14, for all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. All the law is fulfilled in this one word: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Here the Lord is not saying there's some commandment we still have to keep, love our neighbor — well, yes, if we love our neighbor, we are already fulfilling the law. The Lord fulfilled the law — he showed us his love when he gave his life for us, even while we were sinners; the righteous one died for sinners. The Lord, the Lord fulfilled the law through the love with which he loved us and through what he did for us — he fulfilled the law. James 1:25, but he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. The law of liberty is a new law we are under, because through grace, through what the Lord Jesus Christ did for us, he poured out his Spirit on those of us who received him, who become his disciples — there is liberty where the Spirit of God is. There is liberty — because of sin we were slaves, because everyone who sins becomes a slave, but through the Holy Spirit, through the power he has given to men, to his servants, to his anointed ones, there is liberty; those chains we carried, that we received through sin, are now broken — we can be free in Christ, the truth will set us free. Galatians 5:4, you have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. That word is strong — well, all the word I've shared is very clear and transparent. I remain amazed, saying, how is it possible that these people who live under the law want to keep talking about the Torah, the Torah, the Torah, and the devil has put that into their minds — because these words are very clear. I don't believe that is good; certainly it requires revelation from God, because it's as if — no, the devil blocks it — but I marvel at how it's even possible that I would want to place myself under the law, when there's this one scripture alone, Galatians 5:4, you have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Just imagine, that one scripture alone — if some of you understood that one scripture, would you dare right now to put yourselves under the law? Well, I don't think so. If you want to, if you want to condemn yourselves, if you want to be under a curse, as the word says that person is cursed, if you want to go to the lake of fire — because the only way we will be justified is by grace, because we are all sinners, we were all enemies of God, man's righteousness is like a filthy rag before God — only when we repent and are washed by his blood, renewed by the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ, because there is no other name given among men by which we can be saved — only when we put our faith in him, not because of us but because of what he did for us, can we be justified, because otherwise we are all sinners, we are all sinners, and if it is not through faith in him, who justifies us, we cannot be saved, because we all sin — even the best of men, the best of women, is an abomination before a holy God. Acts 15:24-29, since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, you must be circumcised and keep the law — and we gave them no such commandment. Some of those who went out came from among the Pharisees and were troubling Gentiles like us, telling them they had to keep the law, it seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to select men to send to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Here, many who were Jews coming from the different religious sects of that time became disciples, but even as disciples, since they hadn't fully left the law of Moses behind, they wanted the Gentiles to keep the law too — but then the apostles, guided by the Holy Spirit, inspired by him, prayed, and they gathered together and reached an agreement: the Lord commands only four things from the law. It says, as it says, it did not seem good to us, the apostles, and to the Holy Spirit — obviously they were guided by the Holy Spirit — it did not seem good to place any other burden on them than these four things: that you abstain from what is sacrificed to idols — food that has been sacrificed to idols, which is like a Christmas meal, a meal for idols — that's what you should abstain from; from blood — don't eat blood; unfortunately, that's a sin many of us have committed. I was born in the Dominican Republic, and there's something called moronga, or morcilla, something made by cooking pig's blood — the word says don't eat that; from things strangled — animals that die by strangling or drowning, don't eat from those; and from fornication — abstain from fornication, from sexual immorality. Those are the things from the law that we are commanded to keep, in a general sense — so, as we see, we are not under the law of Moses, but we are under the law of grace, and within the law of grace there are many commandments the Lord Jesus Christ gave us, as we are studying in this series — there are commandments the Lord did give us that we must indeed keep. And to conclude, I'm going to read Romans 2:13, for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified. We have a new covenant, we have a new law, we have a new ordinance — it is not you who merely listen who are under grace and will be saved; it is not those who merely hear a teaching like this series we are giving, Called to Be a Disciple, who will be saved — those who will be saved, men and women, those who will be saved, are those who hear the true word of God and keep it in their lives, apply it in their lives, die to themselves in order to live for him. The Lord bless you, thank you for being with us, until next time.
