Titus 1:5-9 For this cause I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you; 1:6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. 1:7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain, 1:8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, 1:9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, so that he may be able, by sound teaching, both to exhort and to convict those who contradict it.

1 Timothy 3:1-2 This is a faithful saying: if a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

Luke 14:26 If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

Mark 10:28-30 Then Peter began to say to Him, "See, we have left everything and followed You." 10:29 Jesus answered and said, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or fields, for My sake and for the gospel's, 30 who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present time — houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, with persecutions — and in the age to come, eternal life."

Romans 16:1 I also commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church in Cenchreae; 16:2 that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and that you help her in whatever she may need from you; for she has helped many, and me as well.

Titus 2:3-7 The older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not enslaved to much wine, teachers of what is good; 2:4 that they may train the young women to love their husbands and their children,

2:5 to be sensible, pure, working at home, kind, submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God may not be blasphemed. 2:6 Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; 2:7 in all things showing yourself to be an example of good works, showing integrity and dignity in your teaching,

1 Corinthians 14:33-36 for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. 14:34 Let your women keep silent in the congregations, for it is not permitted for them to speak, but let them be submissive, as the law also says. 14:35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in the congregation. 14:36 Did the word of God originate with you, or has it come to you only? 14:37 If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him recognize that the things I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.

1 Timothy 2:11-15 Let a woman learn in silence, in all submission. 2:12 For I do not permit a woman to teach, or to exercise authority over a man, but to be silent. 2:13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 2:14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, being deceived, fell into transgression. 2:15 But she will be saved through childbearing, if she continues in faith, love, and holiness, with modesty.

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord; 5:23 for the husband is head of the wife, just as Christ is head of the church, which is His body, and He is its Savior. 5:24 Now as the church is subject to Christ, so also wives should be to their husbands in everything.

1 Corinthians 11:3 But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and man is the head of woman, and God is the head of Christ.

1 Peter 3:1-2 Likewise you wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 3:2 as they observe your chaste and respectful conduct.

1 Corinthians 11:7-10 For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 11:8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man, 11:9 nor was man created for woman's sake, but woman for man's sake. 11:10 Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

1 Corinthians 11:13-16 Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 11:14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears his hair long, it is a dishonor to him? 11:15 But if a woman has long hair, it is her glory, for her hair is given to her as a covering. 11:16 But if anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

Ephesians 5:33 Nevertheless, let each one of you also love his own wife as himself, and let the wife respect her husband.

Ephesians 5:31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 Likewise, the women are to dress themselves in respectable clothing, with modesty and moderation, not with elaborate hairstyles, or gold, or pearls, or costly garments, 2:10 but with good works, as is proper for women who profess godliness.

1 Peter 3:3-6 Your adornment should not be the outward one of elaborate hairstyles, gold jewelry, or fine clothing, 3:4 but that of the inner self — the heart — with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 3:5 For this is how the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 3:6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. You have become her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel and as fellow heirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

Revelation 2:20-22 But I have this against you: you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, teaching and leading My servants astray to commit sexual immorality and eat food sacrificed to idols. 2:21 I gave her time to repent, but she is unwilling to repent of her immorality. 2:22 See, I will cast her onto a bed of suffering, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of what she has done.

1 Corinthians 11:4-6 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 11:5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head — it is just as if her head were shaved. 11:6 For if a woman will not cover her head, she should also have her hair cut off; and if it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should cover her head.

Ephesians 5:22-23 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is head of his wife, just as Christ is head and Savior of the church, which is His body.

Ephesians 5:28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

Mark 10:6-9 But from the beginning of creation, God "made them male and female." "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two will become one flesh." So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.

Ephesians 5:33 In any case, each one of you also must love his wife as himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

1 Corinthians 7:2 But because of so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.

Genesis 2:22-24 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man, who exclaimed, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man." That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh.

Proverbs 31:10 An exemplary wife — who can find her? She is worth far more than precious stones!

1 Corinthians 7:3-4 The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but her husband does; likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but his wife does.

1 Corinthians 7:12-13 To the rest I say — I, not the Lord — if any brother has a wife who is not a believer, and she consents to live with him, he must not divorce her. 7:13 And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer, and he consents to live with her, she must not divorce him.

1 Corinthians 7:15 But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. In such cases the brother or sister is not bound; God has called us to peace.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11 To the married I give this command — not I, but the Lord — a wife must not separate from her husband. 7:11 But if she does separate, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

Isaiah 47:1-9

Judgment on Babylon

Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground, without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans, for you will no longer be called tender and delicate. 2 Take millstones and grind flour; remove your veil, strip off your skirt, bare your legs, wade through the rivers. 3 Your nakedness will be uncovered, and your shame will be seen; I will take vengeance, and I will spare no one. 4 Our Redeemer — the LORD of Hosts is His name — is the Holy One of Israel.

5 Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for you will no longer be called queen of kingdoms. 6 I was angry with My people; I profaned My inheritance and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy; you laid a very heavy yoke on the aged. 7 You said, 'I will be queen forever' — but you did not lay these things to heart, or remember how it would end. 8 Now then, hear this, you lover of pleasure, sitting securely, saying in your heart, 'I am, and there is no one besides me; I will not sit as a widow, nor know the loss of children.' 9 Both these things will come upon you suddenly, in a single day — loss of children and widowhood; they will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and the great power of your spells.

Qualifications for Overseers

1 Timothy 3:1-7 This is a faithful saying: if a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3:3 not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain, but gentle, peaceable, not covetous; 3:4 one who rules his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity 3:5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); 3:6 not a recent convert, lest, being puffed up with pride, he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 3:7 He must also have a good reputation among those outside the church, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the snare of the devil.

Qualifications for Deacons

1 Timothy 3:8-13 Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain; 3:9 holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 3:10 And they must first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are found blameless. 3:11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. 3:12 Let deacons be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 3:13 For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a good standing, and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
