The True Great Commission, Commandments of Jesus Christ to His Disciples, #17

Blessings, this is Pastor Francisco Gómez of Jesus King of Kings Church greeting you. Today we have the final teaching of our series, Called to Be a Disciple — teaching number 17, and I would say one of the most important, because in the end, loving God is our first purpose, and what we have is a calling — that is what this is about: the true Great Commission. The Lord commissioned his disciples — that is today's topic. The Lord commissioned his disciples to do a work, a work that, in the times we live in, many churches have not been doing correctly. They have been doing it halfway, incompletely, but we cannot do this work halfway if it is to bear the fruit the Lord expects of us. So today we will be sharing the true Great Commission, which is a commission, a mandate, an ordinance, a mission that the Lord entrusted to his disciples. We will go to the word of God and see what that mission was that the Lord sent his disciples to do. The Lord Jesus Christ is God, and God came to teach mankind. He taught mankind the true narrow way that leads to the kingdom of heaven; he taught the work in which he is well pleased, and in short, the Great Commission is simply to do the work Jesus Christ did, the way he did it, the way he commanded it, the way he commissioned it. What was the work Jesus Christ did? He went about preaching the gospel, he went about healing the sick and casting out demons, and this is the Great Commission — the Great Commission consists of healing the sick, casting out demons, and preaching the word of the kingdom.

Matthew 28:18-20 — And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.

That is essentially the Great Commission — that is the Great Commission, but to make it clearer, I would complement it with Mark 16:16-20. Here the word says the Lord told them all authority has been given to me, go and make disciples of all nations. Here is a very important keyword again, one that has been the keyword of this whole series, Called to Be a Disciple: the Lord said go and make disciples — he did not say go and make religions, but disciples. And what is the command for making disciples? Teaching them to keep everything I have taught them. That, in essence, is the summary, the true gospel. Those few short phrases represent that pure pearl that few find, because many follow religions and they are obedient to what their religions teach them, but the problem lies at the foundation — that many times the churches where people gather have religions created by men, doctrines created by men, dogmas created by men. They are not true disciples of Jesus Christ, they are not keeping everything Jesus Christ commanded, they are not doing what Jesus Christ did. They only preach, but Jesus Christ did not only preach — Jesus Christ went about healing and delivering people. His disciples did not only preach, they healed and delivered people. So here the command is clearly: go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to keep everything I have taught them. That is the Great Commission. We are sent, first of all, to be disciples of Jesus Christ ourselves, because otherwise we make a mistake. I see many people who truly love the Lord — they see that they have love for God, they've heard that we must serve God, they want to serve God — but they themselves have not first been discipled; they have not first received a true discipleship that turns them into disciples of the Lord. They still have not taken the beam out of their own eye to see clearly, and yet, carelessly, without understanding, they go out to supposedly preach — but what are they preaching, since they are not yet disciples of Jesus Christ? When that happens, it's as though we are leading people into error. So the first command is for us to be disciples ourselves — first we receive the truth and become disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, and once we have received that truth, then we go and make other disciples. We learn everything the Lord taught, and then we go and teach others to keep everything the Lord taught as well.

Romans 10:14-15 — How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace! So here the word says, how will they believe if no one preaches to them? How will they believe what they have not heard? We are commanded to preach, to teach people what we ourselves have received that truly comes from the Lord — we are commanded to share that with another person. But how will they preach? The word says, unless they are sent. In this area, then, one must be discipled, and also pray to the Lord of the harvest to send workers — people whom he has placed that calling on their heart, in their spirit — because how will they preach if they are not sent? Matthew 10:1 — Then, calling his twelve disciples to him, Jesus gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every sickness and every disease. The Lord said, teach them everything I have taught you. To his disciples the Lord gave power and authority to cast out unclean spirits, to heal every disease. The Lord commanded, equipped his disciples so that they would do the same work he did, because being a disciple of Jesus Christ, which is the whole focus of this teaching, is being like the Master, being obedient to his doctrine, to his teachings, being like him. That is why he said, those who believe in my name will do the same works I do, and even greater ones. If we are disciples of Jesus Christ, we have to do the same work he did. Every church, every pastor who is not doing the work Jesus Christ did, is because they are still not disciples of Jesus Christ, because they are still stuck in the doctrines that the denominations have taught, churches that are not formed, that are not standing firm on the rock. But if we receive a teaching like this the way it should be received, with humility and with faith in our hearts, your life will never be the same again. From here on, as we conclude this teaching today, for those of you who hear it with faith, who have believed in your heart that the Lord is faithful to his word and is able to fulfill it — a month will pass. When I understood this word, it took about three months, roughly, in reality, but when I understood what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, when I understood that we had to do the work the Lord did, barely three months passed before I was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, I was baptized in the Holy Spirit, because he said you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. But once we understand a teaching like this, if you still haven't received power upon hearing it, your days are numbered — for those of you who do believe in your heart, who have believed that we have power to do the same work he did in his name, that we have authority in his name, for those of you who believe in him, that he is faithful and rewards those who diligently seek him, the days are near, something wonderful is going to happen. It's going to happen — I don't say it as prophecy, I say it through faith, because I know whom I have believed, and I believe in him, in his word. I believe his promise, that everything he says — sorry, everything in his promises — all his promises are fulfilled for his servants, for those who believe in him, and that is why I am certain that those of you who have heard this teaching and believed it, very beautiful things are about to happen, because his promises are faithful and are fulfilled when we hear the truth and believe it. Matthew 10:7-8 — And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. That is the command — go — here the Lord is commanding it. When we line up all these verses, one after another, where the Lord commands his disciples, we are seeing what the Lord commanded his disciples to do, and if we are his disciples, if we have truly believed and truly turned our hearts to him and made ourselves his disciples — important — disciples of Jesus Christ, not of a religion created by man — the same commandments he gave his disciples are for us. Here he tells his disciples: go preach the kingdom of heaven, healing the sick, raising the dead, cleansing lepers, casting out demons, freely you have received, freely give — here he is telling us what we have to do. That same word that was for the first twelve is for me and for you who are listening to me. If you want to be a disciple of Jesus Christ — first, as we see here, this is very important, and I know I touched on a bit of confusion, perhaps I should be a little more precise in this area — first, this word is for disciples with a ministry. If you look, it was for those with a calling — pastors, prophets, evangelists, teachers — those who went out into the street to heal the sick were not just any repentant person of today; they were those he sent with a purpose, as pastors, to shepherd the sheep, to train the sheep. But for those of us who are disciples with a calling, all of us must have — we must do these things — if we are truly called by him as his disciples, if we have a calling as pastors, prophets, evangelists, teachers, apostles, and we are not doing this work, that testifies that we are not his disciples, because we have to have power, we have to do the work the Lord did, because our struggle is not against flesh and blood. Those people we preach to — the devil has them bound in many ways, with sicknesses and many other bonds — for them to stand firm, we have to set them free. That is why the true gospel cannot be separated from what the Lord did. The true gospel cannot, it cannot, it does not consist of words alone — people need freedom in order to be able to receive the truth.

Luke 10:1-3 — After this the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before his face into every city and place where he himself was about to go. Then he said to them, the harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves. In the same way, we too must pray, because by his mercy the harvest is great — the harvest is great, the fields are already turning green, it is time for us to prepare, to seek the presence of God and be filled with his power, with the Holy Spirit, so that with a teaching like this we can go out there and put it into practice and make disciples. The laborers are few, but the harvest is great — we must pray to the Lord, we must pray to the Lord. I invite all of you who are listening to pray together with me that the Lord would send many more workers, men and women, because there are also many women out there with a wonderful calling who long to serve God, and there are many ways — not necessarily the same as men, but in many different ways — the Lord uses women to be our complement so that together we fulfill the Great Commission. We must pray for the Lord to send many workers, men and women.

John 4:36-38 — Already the one who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both the one who sows and the one who reaps may rejoice together. For in this case the saying is true: one sows and another reaps. I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor. We must work, we must reap — to reap is to gather souls. Right now there are many thirsty souls; a wonderful battle has been fought in the heavens and here on earth in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have won, we have had great victories — great victories have taken place in the heavens, and right now hearts are turning back to Christ. There are many hearts right now that are ready, from all the Catholic, Adventist, Baptist, Pentecostal, Mormon, and Jehovah's Witness churches — there are many people out there, and there will be more and more, because something wonderful is beginning: hearts are turning back to the Lord. Now what is needed is workers, capable people, truly trained, with a willing heart, who are willing first to receive the message with love and with joy, and go share it out there, because there are many hearts that are already prepared to listen, many hearts that are ready to give their lives to Jesus Christ and also become his disciples, both men and women. The one who works receives wages — there is much work to do. We are in apostasy, but thank God we are already coming out of it. There are already eight billion souls out there who need to have this wonderful opportunity to hear this word, so that they may have the opportunity to live and not perish — eight billion. Because of apostasy, we not only have to preach to the world, we also have to preach the word to the church — the churches, all the Christian churches are in apostasy at this moment. They too need to hear this word, to hear this series of teachings, so they can see the difference between the gospel they were living and the gospel of the disciples of Jesus Christ. But together we will accomplish wonderful things, together we will share the word of the kingdom in all nations.

Mark 16:15-20 — And he said to them, go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, he was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. Here this word complements Matthew, because it does complement it — there it commands go and make disciples in all nations, but here it says these signs will follow those who believe. In other words, if you truly became my disciples, if you truly received the true doctrine, if you truly received the true word, and if you truly believed it in your heart, these signs will follow those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons. In short, if you truly believed in me, if you received my word, the word I shared with my disciples, you will do the same work I did — that is essentially what the Lord is saying, because he went about healing and delivering. But it says these signs will follow those who believe in me — in short, these signs will follow those who are my disciples; those who are my disciples will do the same work I did, and he went about healing and he went about delivering. For disciples, these signs are the evidence that we are his disciples. Again, if we truly believed, it is through faith — the key word here is faith. Through faith, when we believe, when we believe that he is faithful, when we believe that these signs will follow — the Lord himself said these signs are not in me, but I believe that in your name I can, Lord; I believe that in your name I can — that is the beginning of something wonderful: believe, believe, believe. If we believe, if we believe, we believe in his word, if we believe that what he says is true — just as the word says the disciples went out to preach and the Lord himself bore witness with the signs that followed — when we believe in our heart that he does what he promises, and if we truly decide to renounce falsehood in order to be his disciples, he will confirm our word, what we share, with the signs that follow, because it is the Lord who is with us. When we are his disciples, it is not by human strength — we don't have to figure out how the healing is going to happen when someone cries, or how those demons are going to come out. No — what we have to do is believe, and in faith we do what the Lord did, and then he does what he promised.

Mark 3:14-15 — And he appointed twelve, that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons — and he commanded them, and sent them to preach to the people and to testify solemnly that this Jesus is the one God has appointed as judge of the living and the dead. The Lord Jesus Christ is the righteous judge, he is the one who will judge the living and the dead. But he appointed his disciples — does the word say for them to go only to preach? No — look, even here it says he chose twelve to go and preach, but he gave them authority to heal every sickness and cast out demons. If we are his disciples, the same commandment given to the first twelve applies to us; if we are his disciples, the same commandment given to the seventy applies to us, because the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. More than two thousand years have passed since he ascended, but in those two thousand years nothing has changed. He gave five ministries to men, until together we reach the unity of the faith, the stature of the perfect man, who is him, and together we will reach that unity — because until we reach that unity, it is because we are not yet made perfect. But until we teach, until we understand, until we receive words like these, in this series, and become his disciples, we will not be able to reach that unity, because the word denomination means division — and there is no unity in a division. The word denomination is division, and they are sometimes divided from one another. The Pentecostals, who right now are among those who most resemble what it means to be disciples of Jesus Christ, because they believe in the gifts, are divided — there are Trinitarian Pentecostals, prophets, apostles, and there are Assemblies of God Pentecostals, and so there are very many Pentecostal denominations, but there isn't even unity among them, because they have different doctrines. But if we receive the Lord's doctrine, if we become his disciples, there will already be unity among us, because there is one gospel, one faith, one Savior, one way, and it is narrow and few find it. But you who are listening to me, we are fortunate to have had the opportunity to hear, to know what the Lord showed, what the Lord taught, without much roundabout talk, without much complication. The gospel itself is not complicated — it is the devil who has made it complicated with so many denominations, because each one creates their own dogma and then starts preaching strange things, this and that, and that is how so many things get created, and now the question becomes, which is the true church? Because now the Pentecostals themselves say the Unitarians are the true ones, that theirs is sound doctrine, but the Trinitarians say that because they believe in the Father and the Holy Spirit, theirs is sound doctrine — which of the two? And then there are many others, and each one has their own beliefs, even among themselves — which is the true one? All that confusion the devil creates is what has made it difficult for many of us to reach that unity of the faith, for many of us to grow to that stature of the perfect man — but by doing the work Christ did, believing what we see in his word. In a teaching like this, as you may notice, I use few of my own words and share the word of God, so that the word of God itself is what convicts you, what gives you understanding. I use the word essentially so that it explains itself, and when we believe, when we listen, when we obey, when we give our hearts, wonderful things happen, and by keeping teachings like this one in this series, we will reach that unity of the faith, and that perfection as well. That perfection — even when we do the work Jesus Christ did, the result is, so to speak, the sum of healing, delivering, and casting out demons — is cleansing for our soul and even for our body, it is holiness, it is growing in the Lord. When we are doing that work, and when we ourselves are recipients of the benefit of being part of a church that carries out this work, where people are being healed, being delivered, and the word is being preached with transparency, without confusion, that is growth, that is strength for the physical body, strength for the soul, it is cleansing for our soul. When we live out a work like this, we keep growing into that image of the perfect man, and through it we will definitely reach the unity of the faith, because when we do the work the Lord did, we are also making room for the Holy Spirit to show his power and his glory in our congregations and through us, and he himself, in his mercy, when we seek him this way, according to what he has asked, he himself keeps cleansing us, he himself keeps exposing the strategies of our adversaries, he keeps giving us more revelation and understanding so that we stay firmer on that narrow path and so that the devil, with his deceptions and lies, cannot make us turn aside.

John 20:21 — Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you. Just as the Father sent the Lord, so he sends us too — the very same thing he came to do is the very same thing he sends us to do: to heal the sick, to cast out demons, to preach the kingdom of heaven, to cleanse lepers, to raise the dead. All these things we will do together, all these things we will do — how will they happen? Through faith — through faith, because we have believed in his word, because the one who spoke this word, the one who gave his disciples authority to do it, is faithful to fulfill it. It is not us who will raise the dead, it is the Lord, through us, who will do it — it is through faith. It is not us who will cleanse the lepers, it is the Lord, through us, who will cleanse the lepers, because we have placed our faith in him, and he promises that we will do the same work he did, because he is with the Father, he is on his throne, and whatever we do, whatever we ask in his name, he will do it so that the Father may be glorified, because the Father is glorified when we do the work the Son did. The Lord raised Lazarus, the Lord raised the little girl who was dead, the Lord raised the dead — and now he tells us, who are his disciples, go and do the same thing I did, raise the dead too. We see that the Lord cleansed lepers — now he doesn't say go and do the same thing I did, you also cleanse lepers — we see the Lord, the mute spoke, the blind saw, the deaf heard, lunatics like the Gadarene recovered their senses — the Lord doesn't say go and do the same work I did, go cast out demons — the Lord healed every kind of sickness, and the Lord commands us the same: go, do the same work I did, heal the sick. This is the true gospel, this is the Great Commission — this is what we were commissioned for, this is what his disciples are sent to do: to heal the sick, to cast out demons, to bring salvation, to preach the good news of the kingdom, and truly these are times of good news, because the kingdom of God has drawn near, the Lord is with us. Time is running out, but he is near, he is with us, he is coming soon, but before that he will pour out his Spirit on many of us so that, with love, in faith, in obedience, and by the power of his Spirit, we may be witnesses in all nations, and after this — after this there is just a little bit more — it is the end, because the Lord is coming for us, the time is near.

Acts 2:41-42 — Then those who gladly received his word were baptized, and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. About three thousand souls were baptized in a single day when they received the truth. We are commanded to do the same — to be baptized ourselves, and then go and baptize others, after we ourselves have become his disciples, doing the same thing. Soon I will be visiting some of those countries, as the Lord sends me, and for those of you who decide to be baptized, that could happen very soon — very soon I will be visiting many of those places.

Romans 10:17 — So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. It comes by hearing — if we believe in faith, if you believe in faith what you have heard. Besides this series, there are two more series I invite you to listen to: one is called Spiritual Warfare: Training Your Hand for Battle, and the other series is Exposing the End-Time Apostasy, and soon there will be another series that will be more focused on ministering healing and deliverance — don't miss it. It's a training for those of you who are called as disciples of the Lord. The purpose of that series is to shorten, so to speak, the time needed to reach greater revelation and to be able to do more for the kingdom of heaven. We will give a training where those of you who have believed and have a calling can be equipped to do the work of the kingdom.

Luke 9:6 — So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. So then, for those of you who have believed, this is what we are commanded to do, and it is my prayer that the Lord have mercy on all of you, that the Lord stir up that restlessness in the spirit of many of you who have been called by his name, that you understand your calling, because many are called and don't even know yet that they are, but may the Lord place that restlessness in your hearts so that together we go out and do this work, preach the gospel in all nations, so that we prepare — prepare his people, prepare his church, because the Lord is coming. Thank you for having been with us — it is my greatest desire that this teaching series has been for the edification of your lives. Thank you for staying with us to the very end, all the way to number 17. Until next time.

The True Great Commission, Commandments of Jesus Christ to His Disciples, #17

Matt 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying: All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Matt 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. Who is making true disciples of Jesus Christ?

Romans 10:14-15 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written: HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!

Matthew 10:1 Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

Luke 10:1-3 Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. And He was saying to them, The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.

Matthew 10:7-8 And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons; freely you received, freely give.

John 4:36-38 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps may rejoice together. For in this case the saying is true: 'One sows and another reaps.' I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.

Mark 16:15-20 And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. Mark 16:17 These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; Mark 16:18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover. Mark 16:19 So then, after the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. Mark 16:20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed. Amen.

Mark 3:14-15 And He appointed twelve, so that they would be with Him and that He could send them out to preach, and to have authority to cast out demons. Acts 10:42 And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead.

Luke 10:17-19 The seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name. And He said to them, I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.

John 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.

Acts 1:8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.

Acts 2:41-42 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

Luke 9:6 Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
