Moving from a Man-Made Religion to Being a Disciple of Jesus Christ — How to Become a Disciple #3

  • To become a disciple of Jesus Christ we must follow, receive, and listen to the teachings of true disciples.
  • To be a disciple of Jesus Christ we must learn the commandments — the doctrine that Jesus Christ taught His disciples — and we must keep it.
  • Freedom is required to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • It is necessary to be born again of water and of the Spirit
  • To become a disciple of Jesus Christ we must follow, receive, and listen to the teachings of true disciples (very important: teachings from disciples of Jesus Christ, not disciples of religions or denominations)

Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; Mat 28:20 teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.

Luke 10:16-17 He who hears you hears Me, and he who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me. Lucas 10:17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, 'Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.'

Matthew 10:40-42 He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. Mat 10:41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. Mat 10:42 And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, truly I tell you, he shall by no means lose his reward.

John 15:18-20 If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you. Joh 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Joh 15:20 Remember the word that I said to you: A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

  • To be a disciple of Jesus Christ we must learn the commandments — the doctrine that Jesus Christ taught His disciples — and we must keep it.

Mark 8:34 Then He called the crowd to Him, along with His disciples, and said: 'Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Me.'

John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said: 'If you hold to My teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'

Matthew 10:24-25 A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household?

John 15:4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

1 Corinthians 11:1 Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.

  • Freedom is required to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

John 8:36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

  • It is necessary to be born again of water and of the Spirit

John 3:3-6 Jesus answered and said to him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.' Joh 3:4 Nicodemus said to Him, 'How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?' Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.'

Nicodemus had a decision to make. He had been born into a man-made religion, not as a disciple of Jesus Christ, and that is why the Lord told him that to enter the kingdom of heaven he needed to be born again of water and the Spirit — because the birth he already had was false.

Just as with Nicodemus, it is necessary for everyone who has been falsely born again — that is, everyone who was 'born again' in the Catholic Church, the Mormon Church, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Adventists, the Baptists, the Pentecostals, and in all such denominations — to renounce them and be baptized again in a church where they will be true disciples of Jesus Christ, after having heard, believed, and received the doctrine the Lord taught His disciples.
